Intel + Olympics Virtual Reality

Aerial Photography in Colorado

In top secret fashion Visionary Aerials teamed up with Colorado based cinematographer Brook Aitken to shoot a series of images for Intel's Olympics Virtual Reality campaign.  The still photography unit with which we were working required an aerial perspective with a high quality image. To achieve this we flew the DJI Inspire 2 with the X5S camera platform.

December 2017. Copper Mountain, Colorado.

We shot at a few locations high in the Colorado Rockies including Copper Mountain with a series of athletes decked out in Olympic bibs.  We worked with Copper Mountains staff to get the proper risk management (insurance) and flight logistics to insure a safe operation.  The flight rules required staying 200ft away from chairlifts and operating over a closed run.

Shooting simultaneously with Olympic still photographer Jason Evans and his team required a close and accurate communication to perfectly time the ski racing athletes lightning fast slalom runs.  Add in cold temperatures and high altitude with gusty wind conditions made a simple task into more of a challenge.  Fortunately we were able to achieve what the client and team wanted.

A second location near Leadville, Colorado provided a space for cross country skiers to show their stuff.  We were transported by snowmobile to our location in a snow covered field and setup our base of operations complete with helipad and monitors for client preview.  We worked closely with a DIT on location to insure client satisfaction and data security.

Imagery captured on location in Leadville, Colorado was later post processed by Intel's Agency Inside. It was included their Pyeongchang Winter Olympics virtual reality print campaign.
